Burlington contributes $10,000 to FDR Elementary
Posted 10/29/19

Students at F.D. Roosevelt Elementary School in Lawndale screamed and cheered on Friday, Oct. 25, at the sight of a giant check for $10,000 presented by Burlington, which is opening soon a new store in the Hawthorne.

The contribution, an act of community good will by the company whenever it opens a new store, will go toward the addition of a makerspace lab for the teaching of science, technology, engineering and math.

“We like to be involved in the community and be able to give back,” said Burlington Regional Vice President Shelley York. “We know that education is a vital part of a community.”

Lawndale Elementary School District Superintendent Betsy Hamilton said the district was thrilled to receive the donation.

“We’re really grateful to Burlington as our newest Lawndale partner,” Hamilton said. “This will help us create opportunities for students to explore, design and create in a lab that combines play with learning.”

The new Burlington store at 14705 Ocean Gate Ave in Hawthorne will open Nov. 8.
